Intensive Driving Courses

Booking an Intensive Driving Course is an important decision, and it can often be a very stressful one – particularly if you are pressed for time and need to obtain your licence before some personal or professional deadline that is fast approaching.

The Driving Lessons Edinburgh team have some useful tips to help you ensure that you complete all the required steps in the right order, so you can focus on your driving and give yourself the best possible chance of passing your test first time.

First of all, there is usually a significant waiting list for your DVSA Theory Test (usually around 2 weeks) and also your DVSA Practical Test (usually several months).

Therefore we usually recommend that you apply for your test dates in plenty of time.

Remember that you can only book your practical exam after passing the theory component, meaning that in most cases there will be a delay of several months before you can get your licence.

The perfect situation is to have your intensive course booked for the period immediately before you sit your practical driving test.

Please give us a phone on 07496 296 130 or email info@drivinglessonsedinburgh.co.uk to discuss your individual circumstances.

Intensive vs Semi-Intensive

When booking a block of intensive lessons it is possible to choose from either a traditional Intensive Driving Course (where all your driving lessons are taken over the course of just 1-2 weeks), or you could choose to undertake a Semi-Intensive Driving Course (where your lessons are spread out over the course of 3+ weeks).

At Driving Lessons Edinburgh we find that some of our pupils prefer the semi-intensive option because it fits in to a hectic lifestyle more easily, and gives more time to reflect on and practise manoeuvres between your lessons.

However other students like the knowledge that they will be able to complete their driving training as quickly as possible in a one-off period of time.

It is really up to you.

However we offer both, so please feel free to call us if you would like advice on whether to choose intensive or semi-intensive lessons.

PLEASE NOTE:

Because of the nature of intensive lessons, Driving Lessons Edinburgh requires payment in full of the total cost of your course in advance.

This is to allow your instructor to be able to book in the large number of one-to-one hours into his or her diary on the days and times that suit you.

The DVSA charges a fee for sitting your Theory Test (£23) as well as for your Practical Test (£62, rising to £75 for evenings, weekends and bank holidays). This charge is payable to DVSA and is separate from the Driving Lessons Edinburgh intensive and semi-intensive course fees quoted above.

As a free service to pupils, we can book your practical driving test – in this case you simply pay your instructor the test fees, and he or she will transfer the payment to DVSA and make the booking on your behalf.

Before getting behind the wheel you must provide proof that you have passed your DVSA Theory Test – usually this will require you to be able to show your Theory Certificate to your instructor when you start your lessons.

To make your initial reservation, a non-refundable deposit of £200 will be required – with the balance to be paid no later than one week before the scheduled start of your lessons.

When your test date is one week away, your instructor will assess your driving skills against the national standard. In the unlikely event that you are not quite test-ready by the end of your course, your instructor will recommend that you postpone or rearrange your test. As long as you do this a sufficient time before your test date you will not be charged for rescheduling – potentially saving your test fee, and making sure that you pass first time. Also, should you sit your test and fail you will be unable to book a second test date within 10 working days – which could obviously impact on you if you have a very tight schedule.
